It is a beautiful fall day. We aren't likely to have many more before the weather turns colder and the snow starts to fall.
So why am I letting the kids stay inside all day, watch tv and drive me nutty?
Why aren't they outside enjoying the gorgeous weather?
We have a visitor.
He has taken up residence under our back deck.
He growled at us for being on the deck.
Ben and our neighbor Kelly went to the next block, went into the neighbor's back yard and snapped these shots over the fence.
Yes, it is a bear. And he has moved in.
Animal control will not remove the bear unless he becomes aggressive, kind of late then, don't you think?
So for now we have a new member of the family. We have named him Bruce, Bruce the Bear. Hopefully he will move out soon, he keeps making gigantic poop in our yard.

SO cute! Kinda scary though huh? Where I grew up we had a lot of bears. They are so neat to watch, as long as they don't get too close (: Have a great weekend!

Oh my GOODNESS!!! Seriously I can't believe they won't come get the bear! Growling is not being aggressive???
A giant poop in the backyard is a bears way of saying, "I like you!" Same can be said for a toddler.
Well, if nothing else you'll have some good fertilizer for your yard! : )
Wow...just wow!
This is rather ironic because Nick Jr and a bunch of other kids channels were touting how this afternoon was "Get out and Play Day" or something like that. We used the excuse that we have a tropical storm on our tails up here and would rather not drown. I kinda think a bear trumps a storm, ANY DAY!
Again, just WOW!
P.S. I know you tagged me, I didn't forget, just trying to think of some stuff.
Umm... what?? Isn't this kind of situation what animal control is for?
How crazy! And do you have a super zoom or were you up that close taking pictures of Bruce?
I think he's hibernating. It's not too early for that, right? I guess your kids will be playing in the front yard all winter.
When we had the enormous dead deer in our yard (aka: Chester), we didn't find any government-sponsored resources to help us out. Division of Wildlife was especially useless. I've since seen lots of "critter control" companies around and been told about many other private wild animal rescue organizations that might have helped us out. Maybe one of them will help you!
So they want the bear to attack one of your kids before they'll remove it? That takes some balls to say. Hopefully the bear will move on before too long and you can go back to being in your back yard without something growling at you. And, oh, is that not considered aggresive?
WOW!!! That is amazing....so, what's the use of waiting til he's aggressive. How about they come out and lure him back to his natural home before he gets pissed off!? Then again, keep him. Might make a fun pet.............with his gigantic poops!
No way! Could you just tell them he seems aggressive to get them out there--I mean he is a bear ;)
No way! That's the craziest thing I've ever heard! I'd be really scared.
Oh my gosh! That's just crazy! I hope that Bruce gets bored and leaves you alone soon.
Seriously, what is wrong with Animal control? They don't want to risk their lives until yours is put in definite jeopardy? Stupid lazy jerks.
Oh wow! We see bears every now and then, but they just pass through. I couldn't imagine one just chillin' under my deck! lol I hope he moves on soon so the boys can go out and play.
OMG! I think bears are so cute...but I would NOT want one living in my backyard! What will happen if he decided to hibernate in your backyard? Crazy!
How crazy is that?
Speechless.
Ok, that is beyond scary!!!
That is great! The bear, not the fact that your kids cannot play outside! Can we come over and check out that bear before he moves on? Scott wondered if your neighbors put their trash in the garage yet?!?!?!
You've got to be kidding me???? Where do you live???? Sheesh! That is freakin' scary!
I can't believe you have a bear living under your deck. Will Bruce hibernate there? When I started reading your post I was thinking a skunk then was surprised when you said bear and saw the pictures. Wow!
