Wow, that's cool that you've been on tv! Do you ever listen to Dave Ramsey? He is a really great financial guy who believes in living debt free (and you can learn how for free). You should check him out, he changed my life. Go to www.daveramsey.com to find his radio show in your area and also he has a show on the Fox Business Channel.
If you're dead set on refinancing, why not choose a shorter loan. Maybe even just a 20 year loan, that way you only extend your pmts for 5 years and still have the consolidation. Your payment may not be as low as with a 30, but they would probably not be as high as you might think....just some food for thought.
We love Dave, too! I love listening to him while I'm in the car. I think he's on 1240AM (?) from 9-11:30am. Once you figure him out, he's SO reasonable. At first he sounds wacky, though, because he doesn't live like everyone else.
